Week 2

In this meeting we were provided a larger moodboard to use as a reference, as well as a written storyline separated in acts.

We talked about reducing the scope and working on one of those three acts.

We were given this moodboard:

For the next steps we agreed on choosing a scene and moving on to storyboarding to get started

Week 1

We had our first meeting / briefing with the creatives today.

We were provided a moodboard of the general vibe and we were told the story in detail.

We made introductions and agreed to meet the following week.

Right after the meeting we decided to make a Trello and a Miro board. I decided to design the Miro board in a way that would be useful to us, which is why I decided to organize it like this:

Winter Break

I took care of a lot of issues and remaining parts of the project this winter break.

This is my list:

  • I made the UI to begin the project
  • I made both good and bad outcomes
  • Added sound
  • Fixed all of my playability issues (and had to change the tree models because of that)
  • Added the player boundaries to the locomotion
  • Tested duck time to see if it was challenging enough

Winter break

During the winter break I had time to take care of the remaining parts of my project.

Those were:

  • Recording the audio to put in my storyboard
  • Creating a VR build
  • Recording that VR build
  • Writing critical report

Overall, I am very happy with my final result!

Winter break

I have been having a lot of problems with multiple tracking in AR. I spent several days of my break trying to solve the code.

I did manage in the end to create the multiple image tracking. However, I was not able to mix the multiple tracking with the sound.

I searched for several days and made about 27 builds but had no luck integrating the sound.

I found one possible solution, which was an integration with Vuforia. However, the free versiion had a watermark and I wanted to be able to create something native to Unity.

Since the sound was the core of my project, I decided to reduce it to one target image and one animation.

Once the image is scanned, the band member will appear and its music will appear as well.

I absolutely loved the idea of this project, which is why I want to propose it as something scaleable in the future.

I am planning on continuing the exploration of the capabilities of Unity in AR and hopefully the fully customizable AR band will be possible in the future 🙂

Week 10 – Final crit

This week was the final crit.

Luckily I recieved very good feedback!

I showed a little bit of what I showed for the mid crit, as well as all of the updates since then.

I showed a little video of the viewport in unity since I was struggling with my VR headset, as something was making it very laggy.

I still have a lot to work on but I am very proud of how the project is going.

Week 10 – Final crit

Today was the final crit and I added a few things that were missing the last time:

  • Character arc
  • Narrative graph

Most importantly, I showed 90% of my storyboard, done in Shapes XR.

Luckily I recieved very good feedback, but I still have a lot to get done 🙂

Week 10 – Final Crit

This week I presented the concept and the visuals to the class for the first time

Fourtunately, they all really liked the idea.

I didn’t have enough time to start the build, so I showed a concept video of how everything should look.

I have never done AR before in Unity, much less with multiple trackers and songs, so I am a little worried that I won’t ba able to achieve it.

Week 9

Unity updates:

Now that a lot of the functionality is covered, I am focusing on the material changes.

I dedicated this week to make the duck transition between normal duck to evil duck.

Apart from that, I managed to make the sky turn red and the lights to go darker.

Also, I’ve been testing what the best time to beat the game is.

My goal is to achieve the middle ground between: not too easy so it’s boring and not too hard so it’s super annoying.

Week 9

I modelled the spaceship in which the story will take place.

I did this in Blender. Now, I will be able to import it into Shapes XR and use it as a base to create the storyboard.

I am very happy with the result 🙂

This is how it looks:
